Had problems with your WorldNav GPS?

Fret no more.

This is your place to sound off - to tell us what you really think of your WorldNav GPS.

Is it useless?

Fails to work?

Software problems?

Poor customer service?

I know how you feel because I went through the same thing some time ago when I ordered a WorldNav 3300.

The WorldNav units are not what the manufacturer claims they are.

What you should do is return it and buy a real GPS unit, such as one made by Garmin. I have a Garmin unit and my brother also has one. My brother just ordered another one from them, their latest unit for truckers known as the 465T.

I feel that Garmin products have it all over WorldNav. Hands down. You can buy one through amazon.com. You will get a good price, from my experience. Just make sure it's an amazon.com-sponsored dealer because that way you aren't taking a risk with an unknown dealer or on-line store.

And the good folks at Garmin don't charge $15 for shipping like the WorldNav folks do. $15!

Heck, WorldNav promoters make more on shipping than they do on the unit. $15! It only costs them $4 to ship the unit. So on each unit they make $11 profit in shipping alone. Feeling ripped off?

If you want to complain to a customer-service person at WorldNav, email marleen.winer@gmail.com or ed@teletype.com. You may not get very far but it's worth a try.

Marleen and Ed - a husband-wife team - run TeleType Co. Inc. at 44 School Street, 10th Floor, Boston, MA. Ed also calls himself Fred, depending on whether he is trying to hide his real identity from an angry customer. So be careful.

If you prefer the phone to email, just call them and complain. 1-800-717-4478.

We also checked amazon to see what customers think of the WorldNav units. Here is one of two similar reviews for one of their units. We quote directly from the amazon.com web site:

"Do NOT waste your $$, April 9, 2009 Teletype 720060 7-Inch Worldnav Truck Portable GPS Navigator

We thought we'd done our research, and chose to believe the positive reviews (about 50%) Big mistake. The graphics are primitive and dark, it's difficult to leave the map, do some searching and return to the map without potentially losing your route.

Some common sense locations are missing or almost impossible to find: i.e., "Rest Areas"!!! The find features are cumbersome and it's difficult to guess what clues they want in order to provide the information you need.

We chose to keep rather than pay a 15% restocking fee, even though we knew immediately out of the box that this was way overpriced and over-stated.

Our disappointment is huge, and if we could give a rating of less than one star we would. We ran it at the same time to compare with our other GPS (TomTom - also NOT recommended) and between the two, TomTom is better.

The customer service people are pleasant and try, but even though we called immediately upon receipt trying to ship it right back, they wouldn't wave the restocking fee.

We should have just paid it and taken the $90 hit. It would have been cheaper than keeping what I consider an inferior and highly overpriced product.

But neither can even be spoken of in the same breath as our new Garmin 255W. Heads and shoulders above both.

For bridge heights/trucking compatibility - wait for the Garmin 465T. We will buy as soon as available for RV'g, and sell the WorldNav on ebay."

It's a treasure trove full of disgruntled buyers who fell for the junk that TeleType sells.

Interesting that the subject of your blog is the 3300, yet all of the comments are for the 3100 - not one is on the 3300.

While I appreciate the insight (I am researching for my uncle, who is a trucker), I don't get any significant value from information about the 3100.

the bottlom line is stay away from worldnav products.

3100, 3300, doesn't matter.

why play with fire?

trust me, the best gps out there is garmin.

i bought the nuvi 260 and i love it.

and garmin folks are happy to help you over the phone if you have any questions.

Hey Ted...I am not sure what your deal is...But I own a WorldNav 3000XL and it has been a great unit. I used to have an older unit of theirs and I had problems, but their customer service dept. was very helpful and willing to make it right. I stopped in to their office and they were very easy to deal with. I ended up with a newer unit with the premium software package (12 million POI!!!) at no cost to me. I love my GPS for this reason only. I can find my customer's by typing in a phone number for search for them by name. I have not yet found another GPS that will find as many businesses as the World Nav unit does.

I will admit that re-routing is very bad on this unit...It will re-route you 5-6 miles further away for no apparent reason espcially if you turn in the opposite direction of where you should be going, so you need to be aware of this should you miss a turn. Overall it is not the best unit out there...but nearly as bad as you try to make it out to be.

From what I have learned through hours of painstaking research, the unit is simply unreliable.

Hope it works out for you.

The model of this unit is 330060. It is referred to as the 3.5" worldnav or the 3300. I have seen this available at the online truck stop (12volt-travel.com). This is the perfect GPS for Truck Drivers.

330060. 3300.

Pick your number Ed.

I don't really care what the model of this WorldNav unit is.

The bottom line is, it's J U N K, no matter what number you use.

Here's some good news, though:

Garmin is releasing a new GPS - the Nuvi 465T for truckers.

If it's from Garmin I have to believe it will be the best trucker GPS on the market.
